1. What is the Glass Ceiling? The Glass Ceiling consists of invisible, illegal and immoral artificial barriers which impede equal employment, support and salary compensation for African Americans, other minorities and women. While the Glass Ceiling cannot be seen or touched, it is easily felt and devastating. The effects are demoralizing and often overwhelm their victims. The Glass Ceiling was created and perpetrated by deep-seated prejudices based on unfounded believes against minorities and women. 2. Why Did You Write This Book?Today African Americans, other minorities and women are pervasive
victims of institutional racism and sexism attitudes. They are daily parts of our lives
which consist of unwritten laws and covert policies designed to limit our success.
Worst yet these actions may culminate in the extinction of African Americans. It
would be misleading not to state that all white males are not racist or sexist. It must
also be stated that it is the white male power structure who perpetrates this crime. Just
as guilty are the inaction's of the silent white male majority who choices not to speak
against discrimination. Their silence makes them as guilty as those who commit these
hideous acts. Racism is so universal in this country, so wide spread and deep-seated, it is invisible because it is so normal Shirley Chisholm. It is a sad but true commentary about our society. My book was written to help overcome this plight. It was done with the intentions of not only helping African Americans, minorities and women break the shackles of discrimination but to show white American and institutions why it is in their best interest to discard these counter productive attitudes. Being color and gender blind increases everyone chances for success by creating unlimited opportunities for businesses and our country. This book is not about being anti white, anti establishment or anti America. It is about being anti discrimination. I hope it will be a blessing to everyone who reads. 3. Should Affirmative Action be Abolished? The answer is a resounding no. In 1968 the National Advisory Commission on Civil Disorder stated "What White Americans have never fully understood but what Negroes can never forget - is that white society is deeply implicated in the ghetto. White institutions created it, white institutions maintain it, and white society condones it." This quote is as relevant today as it was thirty years ago with the increasing disparities in employ-met opportunities, salaries, benefits and job security between white males, minorities and women. Most of the small gains made by the civil rights movement are being eliminated. Racism and sexist attitudes are no longer publicly displayed. They are consummated behind closed doors and are culminated as subtle telltale signs that are almost impossible to prove with our existing legal system. While these tactics are subtle, opaque and perpetrated by unfounded myths, they are just as devastating as the old Jim Crow laws of the sixties. 4. Is The Reverse Discrimination Argument Valid?Intense discussions and conflicting views concerning minorities and women receiving preferential treatment are sensitive and highly debated issues. It is the basis for white America's reverse discrimination argument that "qualified white males" are subjected to employment discrimination. They believe unqualified minorities and women are given jobs they deserve. Their contention is no group or gender should be subjected to racism or bigotry. This argument has been effectively used to dismantle Affirmative Action. A superficial review of the reverse discrimination argument appears to have merit. In reality, once you understand the basis behind the reverse discrimination argument, you find it is racism and bigotry in its purest form. The reverse discrimination defense only addresses the symptoms of racism and bigotry that affects a small portion of the white male population. It does nothing to address the root of racism, bigotry, and sexism that ravish the vast majority of African Americans, minorities and women in America. It gives no credence that the white male majority created and supported institutionalized racism, bigotry and sexism in our country. White males refuse to accept responsibility to eliminate the plague they created in our society. White America created the need for Affirmative Action and no one else. 5. Who Benefited The Most From Affirmative Acton? It is a misconception that African American have reaped the most benefits from Affirmative Action. In fact white females have benefited the most from Affirmative Action Programs. They have received more jobs, promotions and benefits as a result of it than blacks and any other minorities. Affirmative Action was never designed exclusively for blacks and yet the public sees it as such. The reason for this common belief is because of African-American's monumental and public civil rights struggle which resulted in Affirmative Action laws. It is a fact that white women will be the biggest losers if Affirmative Action is abolished. 6. How Should We Address Discrimination? The correct answer is a simple one. Address discrimination whenever it occurs. Never use the excuse "I am waiting for the right opportunity" as justification to ignore discrimination. When we choose to wait, we not only give our permission we endorse discrimination as an acceptable way of life. Whenever we address discrimination, we must respond with integrity, intelligence, and honesty. We must use common sense and act with the spirit of God in our hearts. Only by doing this can we successfully eliminate discrimination in the workplace. Silence is discrimination's greatest ally, "No person is your friend who demands your silence, or denies your right to grow" Alice Walker. 7. Why Is Discrimination So Prevalent In America?Because white, African Americans, other minorities and women are unwilling to address discrimination out of fear, ignorance and the associated repercussions they will endure. Instead, America has chosen to hide and ignore discrimination in the false believe that it will magically disappear. |
